Dive Deeper: Psalm 107:1
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
— Psalm 107:1 (NIV)
Gratitude changes the way we see the world. Psalm 107:1 reminds us that every good thing comes from God—His love, His care, and His goodness that never ends. When we practice thankfulness, we’re reminding our hearts that God is always faithful.
Even kids can begin to notice God’s goodness in everyday moments—like the warmth of sunshine, laughter with friends, or their favorite meal at dinner. Helping children pause to say, “Thank You, God,” builds a lifelong habit of gratitude and joy.
🌳 Activities to Explore Gratitude
Psalm 107:1 reminds us to thank God for His goodness and love that never ends. Here are several creative ways to help kids put this verse into action at home, school, or church!
Grow Your Gratitude Tree
In the book, the activity is a gratitude tree—and you can keep that idea going! Draw or cut out a simple tree on paper or poster board. Each day this week, add a paper leaf with something you’re thankful for written or drawn on it. Watch your tree fill up with reminders of God’s goodness! Bonus idea: Make one as a family and see how big your gratitude grows.
Thankful Jar
Find a jar or container and decorate it with the words “Give Thanks to the LORD.” Each day, write one thing you’re thankful for on a slip of paper and drop it in. At the end of the week (or month), read them together as a family and thank God for His goodness and love that endures forever. Variation: Use colorful papers or seasonal shapes—like leaves, stars, or hearts.
God’s Goodness Collage
Cut out or draw pictures of things you’re thankful for—people, places, or blessings—and glue them on a large sheet of paper. Write “God is Good!” across the top. Talk together about how each picture shows God’s love and care.
Take a short walk together and look for reasons to thank God along the way—flowers, birds, sunshine, friends, or laughter. Remind kids that giving thanks isn’t just for mealtime prayers; we can thank God anywhere and at any time
.
Thank You Cards
Create handmade thank-you cards for someone who has shown God’s love—like a teacher, grandparent, or friend. Include Psalm 107:1 inside the card as a reminder that kindness is part of God’s goodness.
God’s Goodness Alphabet Game
Challenge kids to think of one thing they’re thankful for for each letter of the alphabet (A for apples, B for Bible, C for church…). It’s a fun way to practice gratitude as a family or group while learning how many blessings we can name!
💬 Family Discussion Questions
In this verse, kids learn that giving thanks helps them see God’s goodness and remember His unending love. Use these questions to help children think about what it means to be thankful and how gratitude can become a part of everyday life.
It can be helpful to break this verse down into three big truths:
Give Thanks: Being thankful reminds us that every good thing comes from God. Gratitude turns our focus from what we don’t have to all that God has already provided.
For He Is Good: God’s goodness never changes. Even when we face challenges, He is still faithful, kind, and loving. We can always thank Him because He works all things for good.
His Love Endures Forever: God’s love never ends—it lasts forever! No matter what happens, His love never runs out or fades away. Teaching kids that truth helps them trust that God is always with them.
Additional discussion questions:
What are three things you’re thankful for right now?
Why do you think it’s important to say “thank You” to God?
According to the verse, God is what?
What endures forever?
How can you remember to thank God every day?
How many times does the Bible tell us to give thanks?
Why do you think God reminds us to be thankful so often?
How can we show gratitude to others?
What happens to our hearts when we choose thankfulness instead of complaining?
🎵 Sing It! – “Psalm 107:1” by Saddleback Kids
Watch this fun video from Saddleback Kids and do the motions as you sing. It’s a great way to thank God and remember that His love never ends.
Note: This song says “His faithful love endures forever,” which comes from the New Living Translation (NLT). The verse in Memory Verses in Action uses the New International Version (NIV 2011): “His love endures forever.” Both tell the same truth—God’s love never ends and He is always faithful!
🌟 Closing Thought
Psalm 107:1 reminds us that gratitude is more than just saying “thank You”—it’s a way to live every day. When we thank God, we remember His goodness and see His blessings all around us. As we share our gratitude through words and actions, others can see God’s love shining through us. Keep giving thanks—because God is good and His love lasts forever!
