Fun and Simple Tips for Memorizing Bible Verses

Updated: Oct 26

Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to hide God’s Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11). But for kids, memorization needs to be engaging, practical, and fun! That’s why we created Bible Verses in Action—a book filled with verses, activities, and prayers to help kids ages 6–10 learn God’s Word in meaningful ways.

Tips for Helping Kids Memorize Bible Verses

Here are some fun and practical ways to help your child memorize and remember God’s Word:

  1. Say It Out Loud

Read the verse together several times. Repetition helps move Scripture from short-term memory into the heart.

  2. Break It Into Parts

Divide the verse into smaller phrases and learn one section at a time before putting it all together.

  3. Write It Down

Have your child copy the verse in a notebook, journal, on notecards, or in the Write It sections of Memory Verses in Action. Writing by hand helps strengthen memory and deepen understanding.

You can also keep a special journal where your child records favorite verses, prayers, and reflections. Encourage them to write what each verse means to them and thank God for what they’re learning.

  4. Sing It or Add a Rhythm

Turn the verse into a simple song, chant, or clapping pattern. Music and rhythm make memorization stick!

  5. Add Motions

Create hand signs or actions for key words. Movement makes it active and fun for visual and kinesthetic learners.

  6. Draw It Out

Encourage your child to draw a picture of what the verse means to them. Art helps them visualize and connect with Scripture in a personal way.

  7. Make a Verse Banner

Write each verse on colorful paper or cardstock and hang it in the room as a reminder. You can decorate it with stickers or drawings.

  8. Verse Mix-Up Game

Write each word from the verse on slips of paper or note cards, mix them up, and challenge your child to put them back in the right order. For extra fun, time them and see if they can beat their score!

  9. Find It in the Bible

Have your child look up each verse in their Bible and read it aloud. It builds confidence and helps them see where the verse lives in Scripture.

  10. Post It Around the House

Place verse cards on mirrors, doors, or the refrigerator—anywhere your child will see them throughout the day.

  11. Pray It

Encourage your child to turn each verse into a prayer. Talking to God about His Word helps make it real in everyday life.
