Dive Deeper: Philippians 4:6

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” — Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

In this verse, kids learn that God doesn’t want us to be anxious or filled with worry. Instead, He invites us to talk to Him about everything—our fears, hopes, needs, and even our thankfulness. Prayer isn’t just something we do before meals or bedtime; it’s how we stay close to God every day. When we bring our worries to Him in prayer, we can find peace knowing that God hears us, cares about us, and is always in control.

💡 Activity: Worry-to-Prayer Jar

Find a small jar or container and label it “My Prayer Jar.” Give your child slips of paper to write or draw things they feel worried about. Each time they place a note in the jar, encourage them to pray and give that worry to God. Later, you can look back together and talk about how God answered or brought peace.

This simple activity helps kids turn their worries into prayers and reminds them that they can trust God with every concern.

Additional Discussion Topics and Questions

Use these truths and questions to help kids think about what prayer means, how it helps us when we’re anxious, and how we can talk to God about everything in our lives.

It can be helpful to break this verse down into four big truths:

  1. God doesn’t want us to worry. When we feel anxious, scared, or unsure, God tells us not to stay stuck in worry. He reminds us that He is always with us.

  2. We can pray about everything. No matter what’s happening—good or bad—we can talk to God about it. Prayer helps us bring our thoughts and feelings to Him instead of carrying them alone.

  3. We should thank God, too. When we pray, we don’t just ask for help—we also thank God for what He’s already done. Gratitude reminds us of His goodness and builds our faith.

  4. God gives us peace. When we choose prayer over worry, God fills our hearts with peace. His peace is stronger than fear and helps us trust that He’s in control.
