Dive Deeper: Psalm 119:11

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” — Psalm 119:11 (NIV)

Psalm 119:11 teaches kids why God’s Word matters in their everyday lives. When we memorize Scripture and remember God’s truth, it helps us make wise choices, avoid wrong actions, and stay close to Him. Hiding God’s Word in our hearts means keeping His truth with us wherever we go—at home, at school, and in all the little moments of the day.

Activity Idea: Verse Treasure Box

Help kids understand what it means to “hide” God’s Word in their heart by creating a special place to store Scripture.

What You Need:

  • A small box, envelope, or container

  • Paper or index cards

  • Markers or stickers

What to Do:

  1. Decorate the box together and label it “God’s Word Treasure Box.”

  2. Write Psalm 119:11 on the first card place it inside. (Optional: decorate the card)

  3. Add additional verses your child has memorized. Continue to add new verses that your child learns.

  4. Each day, choose one card and read it out loud.

  5. Talk about how keeping verses “in your heart” is like keeping treasure safe—you carry God’s truth with you wherever you go.

Connection:

This activity helps kids picture God’s Word as something valuable and worth keeping close. Memorizing Scripture becomes a joyful way to fill their hearts with God’s truth.

  2. Hiding God’s Word in Our Hearts Means Memorizing It: When we learn Bible verses, we carry God’s truth with us wherever we go—at school, at home, or in moments when we need help.

  3. God’s Word Helps Us Make Good Choices: Remembering Scripture keeps our hearts strong. It helps us avoid sin, choose what’s right, and follow God’s ways.
